Hemlock Solid Blade Special – Overview

The Hemlock Solid Blade Special is soft yet powerful.

Both rebound and control have been further improved,

Among hemlocks, there are harder types and softer types.
You can think of the Hemlock Solid Blade Special
as being made from a softer wood similar to hinoki,
but:

• slightly harder than hinoki, and

• with tighter, denser grain,

which together provide even better performance.

This hemlock grows in the Alaska region,
but you can think of it as a different strain or species
from ordinary hemlock.

with the performance that emerged from the firmness
of the original Hemlock Solid Blade Special.

Hemlock vs. Hinoki – A New Balance

Previously, most hemlock blades were made
at a thickness of around 6.4mm.

The Hemlock Solid Blade Special is now made
slightly thicker, at 6.8–7mm
(Shakehand / Chinese penhold).

Even at this thickness,
it delivers excellent power and performance.

Typical hinoki solid blades often need to be
8.5–9mm thick because the wood is softer.
But because hemlock is a bit harder than hinoki,
it maintains top performance even at a thinner thickness.
